Paul Prince : Rider of the Week

RM3: Tell us a little about you?

I'm a Registered Nurse working in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit at CHS- Pineville.

I'm originally from Dunedin, New Zealand. I moved here with my Charlottean wife Amy, and kids, two years ago. After a year in Waxhaw, we settled in Matthews.

RM3: When did you learn to ride a bike?

My first bike ride was on my 6th birthday, I still remember my father letting go as I flew down the driveway. Back home I was a commuter, racing to work on a hybrid. My goal when I got to the US was to go to Bike Depot, buy a bike, and start riding. I achieved it 2 days after I arrived here in 2015. Teelo sorted me out, and I have never looked back. Cycling has given me some great friends, and something to keep my mind off home.

RM3: What has been your favorite large bike ride?

BSG (Blood Sweat and Gears). I have done the 50 mile route twice and and I get butterflies thinking about next year. Reputation was enough to pique my interest, and I love their passion for reducing poverty.

RM3: What is your favorite local route?

Cruising with the Bike Depot crew on any route that involves Wolf Pond.

RM3: What do you find to be the most exciting thing about riding?

The exhilaration of a tight group riding fast and smooth.

RM3: Do you do a lot of charity events?

The majority of the rides I do have a charity component. I do 4 or 5 a year

RM3: When not riding what is your favorite thing to do?

Skiing with my family. The memories of what skiing was like pre-family are too painful, but I love watching them learn and improve.

RM3: When it comes to cycling tell us three things on your bucket list.

Something in France

Twizel to Mt Cook and back (New Zealand)

Any ride that involves a cold beer in the warm sun! (RM3: I can make sure the beer is there, Irish beer at that)

RM3: What do you most look forward to at RM3?

A fun ride in picturesque countryside, at a beautiful time of year, and the chance to contribute to a great cause.
